Excellence Concert Series

Salt Lake City 7
Traditional New Orleans Street Jazz
Date: Saturday, January 13
Time: 7 pm

The Salt Lake City 7 began as part of the Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band at Brigham Young University in 2010. Under the tutelage of Dr. Steve Call, Austin Robinson on trumpet, Brian Woodbury on trombone, and Jory Woods on clarinet would go on to form the backbone and frontline of the strongest line up in the ensemble’s history. As part of the collegiate ensemble they won numerous individual and ensemble awards at the Sacramento Traditional Youth Band Festival. Gradually other players joined the founders and created the Salt Lake City 7. After nearly 6 years together the band recently had its greatest opportunity yet to hone their craft: a concert tour to New Orleans. During that tour the band was able to workshop with some of the biggest names in traditional jazz, as well as perform on the Riverboat Natchez and at the world famous Preservation Hall. Their time in New Orleans served as a pivotal moment in their development, coming on the heels of the released of their first album. The performances in New Orleans served as a refiner’s fire, preparing them to record their second album.
